Natural Baby Shower Ideas

We love celebrating new babies here at Our Green House, and what better way to celebrate a new little one that with a baby shower!  If you are hosting a shower, there are so many different themes and ways to celebrate, so we wanted to share some natural and organic ideas that you can incorporate into your shower :)

The traditional diaper cake is a really cute idea, but it is even better with cloth diapers like this one!  You can make a new mom a wonderful diaper cake full of cloth diapers, swaddle blankets, and lots of other organic cotton goodies that a will be needed for when little one arrived.

We love the idea of giving guests favors that they can continue to and enjoy and use.  Giving guests small herbs in compostable containers is such a sweet gesture, and every time they use their herbs they will think of the little baby they showered!

When it comes to decor for a baby shower, sometimes less is more.  We really like the idea of using mason jars from around the house to hold simple flowers or greens.  If you have wild flowers or pretty greenery growing in your yard, you can make beautiful and simple arrangements from those!

When it comes to food at showers, its great to serve simple items that are in season.  We love creating a delicious parfait bar because everyone can build a parfait just the way they like!  Try buying the fruits from your local farm or farmers market, and there are lots of great granola recipes that you can make ahead of time.

Last but not least, we just adore making a piece of art out of all the cards a new mom receives when she is expecting and has had her baby!  Simply use a heart shaped punch to cut the cards, arrange them on a piece of paper, and then pop it in a frame.  This is such a sentimental (and simple) piece of art that is perfect for the nursery, plus you are recycling all of the cards and giving them new purpose!

Throwing a natural and organic baby shower is a fun and fairly simple way to show a new mom how much she is loved.  Using organic/natural foods and decor that are in season and readily avaibale will make your shower a hit among everyone!  And for all your baby shower gifts, make sure to check out Our Green House.

A Mom's Perspective on Cloth Diapering

At Our Green House we are all about providing the best organic and natural products for your baby.  One area that we are very passionate about is cloth diapering!  We sell lots of cloth diapering products, and today we are excited to have our wonderful team member, Melissa, share her thoughts on cloth diapering!

I admit it.  On more than one occasion I have opened up a shipment of cloth diapers and said I needed a new baby.  The soft organic fabrics, the adorable prints, the high you get from doing something better for your planet (is that just me?) - cloth diapering could be called a passion of mine.  Luckily for me, I recently had my second baby who I can use as the official Our Green House cloth diaper tester.  The baby doesn’t seem to mind.

But really - how could he?  His little heinie is constantly wrapped in the comfort of plush organic cotton.  We had cloth diapered our first baby too, but that was five years ago and even in that short period of time so much has changed.  My first son used fitted diapers with plastic pants because that was all I knew.  With our new little fella we are using some fitted diapers with lightweight wraps, a few all-in-one diapers, and we’ve tried our hand at the economical prefolds.  Having so many cloth diaper options makes it easier to use cloth all day and night.  With a little experimentation I have found which combo is best for lounging at home versus a trip to the store.  The super absorbent Dimple diaper allows us to use cloth all night long.  The best part about knowing that we wanted to use cloth right away was that there are great options out there for even tiny newborn babies.  They go through so many diapers in the beginning, to think of tossing them in the trash seemed like such a waste (literally).

We are now two months into cloth diapering with our new son and he is rash-free and happy!  I have a stockpile of adorable cloth diapers that I really like - though I will probably need more babies to test the quality over time ;)

Check out Our Green House’s selection of organic and natural cloth diapers and feel free to email us with any questions.  My next favorite thing after using cloth is talking about using cloth!

Cloth Diapering

Cloth diapering has made a huge comeback within the past decade.  For those who are looking for an alternative to buying thousands of diapers for their baby/toddler, it can be a great option.  Cloth diapering can also save lots of money in the long run and you can reuse your cloth diapers if you have more babies!  At Our Green House we carry a variety of cloth diapers that include Bummis and Bumgenius as well as lots of accessories and extras that you will need for your cloth diapering experience.

We love how eco-friendly cloth diapering is, and in case you were curious, here are a few stats about regular diapers that may make you want to consider the cloth option!

A full-time diapered baby averages 5000-8000 diaper changes before
the completion of potty training.

95% of American babies wear disposable diapers

3.5 million tons of disposable diapers are sent to landfills each year

Every year 250,000 trees are used to make disposable diapers in America
